Dr Carlos Verges (Barcelona 1957 ) , graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona in 1980 and moved to Boston (USA ) to perform basic research in ophthalmology, a PhD candidate in biology at Harvard University and his doctoral thesis on the mechanisms of tear secretion , which will be essential for understanding the pathology of Dry Eye Syndromes , ( Thesis in Barcelona 1983) and to represent the National Research Award (1983).

After the era of basic research makes specialty ophthalmology between Barcelona and Boston with a Fellowship in Cornea at the Department of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School , Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary ( 1985) and Ocular Pathology at the Moorfield Eye Hospital London and the Hôpital de Dieu de Paris ( 1986).

In Barcelona makes his career in the Provincial Hospital of Barcelona , first as a Medical Assistant and then as Head of the anterior segment , which highlights their contributions in the field of cataract surgery with phacoemulsification and in the field of cornea with new treatments with immune suppressants ( cyclosporine ) in cornea transplantation ( INQUIFARMA 1985 National Award ) .

In its concern to broaden the field of ophthalmology , takes the Master in Hospital Services ( ESADE 1990) and in 1995 pursuing the Bachelor of Philosophy .

In 1991 he won the oppositions Professed Chair Holder and came to play the Chief of Service of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Hospital del Mar de Barcelona ( UAB ) , and in 2000 he moved to the Institut Universitari Dexeus as Head of Service . In 2007 it was linked with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC ) and begins to execute its clinical activity in the CIMA Clinic , affiliated to this University , where he focuses on developing new intraocular lenses for cataract surgery and new ablation profiles for laser surgery of presbyopia , appearing as a scientific advisor to the world’s leading companies in ophthalmology.

During these years he has taught its own program in the training of specialists MIR has directed several doctoral courses and specialized masters in anterior segment and published numerous scientific articles in journals and books and is one of the most important ophthalmologic societies , participating actively in courses and conferences . Currently he is a member of the Board of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (ISRS , AAO ) .

Today continues its clinical activity in Ophthalmology Area Advanced and his teaching and research activities in the UPC , collaborating with other national and international universities . His area of ​​interest is centered in the area of ​​the falls and the neurophysiological mechanisms of vision, especially related to sport .
